He was doing a routine briefing to passengers so flight attendant Lauren Gibbs didn’t think anything of it.
But pilot Jon Emerson decided to change things up a little during a flight from Detroit to Oklahoma City.
He decided to take the opportunity to ask a very important question to his girlfriend while welcoming passengers on board the plane.
In a heartwarming video filmed by an off-duty pilot, Jon can be heard informing passengers about the 2.5 hour flight time and the possibility of turbulence.
He then introduces Lauren to the passengers and says: ‘This is a very special day for Lauren and me.
‘It’s our anniversary today and she’s one of our very best flight attendants.
‘I want this day to be known for the rest of our lives. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.’
Jon then reaches into his pocket and pulls out an engagement ring before getting down on one knee and asking her to spend the rest of her life with him.
Lauren, clearly emotional, then leans down to kiss her fiance as several passengers cheer for the couple.
The thrilled pilot, who had spent three months planning the proposal for their anniversary, said: ‘She said yes!’
Lauren told The Independent she was taken by surprise because ‘Jon is a really quiet guy, with a very shy personality’.
The couple met when they were assigned a trip together and have flown together ever since.
